Paul Deastlov

Obituary of Paul M. Deastlov

Paul M. Deastlov, age 76, passed away at his Stow, Ohio home October 22, 2018 after a series of strokes and related health issues. Born in Boston, Massachusetts August 18, 1942, he graduated from St. Sebastian’s School, Newton, MA in 1960 and from Boston College in 1964, later also earning his MBA at BC. A Northeast Ohio resident since 1978, he has called home the communities of Northfield, Hudson and Stow.

He is survived and will be missed by his three sons and daughters-in-law, Paul Jr. (Elizabeth) of Shrewsbury, MA, Thomas (Tammy) of Parma, OH, and James (Heather) of Sagamore Hills, OH; and seven grandchildren, Anne Cuthbert, Peyton, Aidan, Lauren, Theresa, Shannon, and Thomas.

A skilled piano and guitar musician, Paul loved folk, jazz and Irish traditional music. He celebrated his Irish heritage, and his family and friends know he enjoyed a laugh and had a dry sense of humor. He enjoyed large scale vegetable gardening and detailed railroad and cityscape modeling, and welcomed any excuse to be astride his John Deere garden tractor. Paul earned his private pilot license in his 40s. He was a volunteer fire fighter in his younger years, rising to Chief of the Belmont, MA Auxiliary Fire Department, and always had a special love of the fire service.

Paul served after college in the Massachusetts National Guard, 26th “Yankee” Division.  He worked in Sales and Management with Alcan Aluminum and others, for many years, and as president of Johnsonite. An entrepreneur at heart, he founded his own flooring supply business, where he enjoyed working for a time with son Tom. Later, he provided consulting services, and post-retirement, kept himself active engaging with Home Depot customers.

He is pre-deceased by parents, Francis and Eileen, and brother Francis.

A memorial service is planned November 19, 2018 at 10:00am at St. Barnabas Catholic Church, Northfield Center, OH. In lieu of flowers, Paul’s family suggests donations in Paul’s name to www.takenosmoke.org , www.bostonfirefightersburnfoundation.com or www.lastcallfoundation.org.
