Obituary of Jeffrey Carl Staker

Jeffrey Carl Staker, 66, died Monday, March 16, 2020. Born in Cleveland, to Carl and Dorothy Staker (deceased), Jeff graduated from Brush High School, attended The Ohio State University, and became a PGA member in 1982. He loved the game of golf, its rules and etiquette. To him it was the game of a lifetime. While he enjoyed instructing adults, his passion was for junior golfers. He developed a custom Clubs-For-Kids measuring system which was adopted by the PGA of America and added to the inventory of the national PGA bookstore making it available to all PGA members. Jeff personally completed over 2,000 sets of Clubs-for-Kids. He developed free Junior Clinics and 15 Junior golf leagues for juniors at all levels while at Cleveland Metroparks: Pee-Wee, Cadet, Junior, and Advanced. Jeff enjoyed years of coaching rec-league basketball in the NYB (Nordonia Youth Basketball). Using his golf teaching skills to motivate and encourage youngsters to play basketball, he found ways to include every player on his teams, building camaraderie and confidence. Jeff was a gentle giant who focused on the best in others. He is best known for his infectious laugh, sweet tooth, and knack for giving memorable nicknames. His only hope in life and in death was Jesus, in whose presence he is now in. He is survived by Linda, his wife of 36 years; sons Andrew (Catherine and Conner) and Peter (Rachel, Adalynn, Hudson, and Havah); sisters Robin (Bill) Quigney and Sally (Don) Buchanan, and brother Paul Staker. The family thanks you all for your prayers and encouragement. Jeff was a faithful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, who will be deeply missed. A notice regarding a celebration of life will be publicly posted at a later date. Memorials may be made in his memory to CVCA - Scholarship Fund, 4687 Wyoga Lake Road, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44224.
