I had the pleasure of meeting Tom and his wife, one special day, while visiting my Grandmother, Helen Gozdick, in Snydertown, PA . They were just passing through on their way back home to Ohio when they decided to stop at the original Yancy family homestead and I was lucky enough to be there too visiting my Grandma. She had just made me a fresh batch of potato pancakes, as I don't get to see her much since I live in McKinney, TX. When I realized how far they had also traveled, I lean over to my Grandma and discreetly asked that she please offer them to her guests Tom & Susan. I could tell from their conversation that my Grandma was somehow related & they explained to me that my Grandma and Tom's dad, Victor, were brother and sister. We chatted over the delicious pancakes and discovered how we were all related. My mother, Judith A. Gozdick, (my Grandma's oldest daughter) was the same age as Tom and were also first cousins, and I believe they went to school together at Derry. I knew that day, I had just met two very special people, but also, in a sad way, I knew we would probably never cross paths again. I feel so blessed to have shared those potato pancakes with Tom and Susan and hope they enjoyed our once-in-a-lifetime happenstance at my Grandma's house as much as I did. May God Bless his soul, his wife, and the entire Yancy family both in Ohio and Pennsylvania.

My deepest sympathy to Susan in the loss of your dear husband, and his children. I went to High School with Tom, watched him play sports, he was a great person, so kind and gentle, and enjoyed seeing both of you at class reunions. I have lived in Michigan since I graduated from Derry Boro. I just retired at 81. I am so sorry to hear Tom had Parkinson’s. Peace and love. Lynn Shoup Rinke. lynnrinke@gmail.com

To all of the Yancy’s, you are in our hearts. Matt, your dad was a great man. So funny, and generous. Once, a long while ago, your dad and I ran into each other on the range at Barrington golf course. I was way off my game and had just a terrible case of the yips. I was embarrassed to be swinging there next to your dad who was just puring shot after shot. I think he sensed my frustration and he turned and looked at my situation. He looked me square in the eye and said. ‘This course is going to eat you alive.’ And he cracked a big grin and we both laughed. My yips disappeared a bit. I don’t remember what I shot that day, but I remember your dad making things a bit easier for me. He was a great guy. I’m sorry for your loss.

Sincerest condolences to Sue and the family. Tom was one of the finest biblical Christians I ever met. He was a constant encouragement to me in ministry, always free with his wisdom, love and advice. He will be sorely missed by those men that knew and relied on him as I did. He was absolutely a good and faithful servant. He led a life to be celebrated.
