Obituary of Thomas Michael Yancy

STOW - Thomas Yancy, 83, entered into the presence of Jesus, his Savior and Lord, on March 31, 2021. He died after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. His courage, sense of humor, and gentle spirit throughout the course of his illness inspired many. Tom grew up in the small town of Derry, Pennsylvania. He became an accomplished athlete in high school lettering in track, baseball, football and basketball. His athleticism earned him a scholarship to Geneva College. He graduated from Geneva with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering. While there, he was recognized as the 6th all-time basketball scorer in the school’s history. He met his bride-to-be during this time. He and Susan married in 1960 and settled in Hudson, Ohio where they raised their three children. The majority of his business career was spent in the non-ferrous metals business. In 1983, he and his two partners started a company called Conversion Resources, Inc. The company was sold in 1999, the same year Tom retired. Following his retirement, Tom met Josh McDowell, who had a great influence on his passion to spread the Gospel and see the amazing things God was doing. Tom’s adventurous spirit led him to take many mission trips throughout the world. His gift of networking benefitted many. He served on several boards including Geneva College, Greater Cleveland Christian School, The Joshua Fund, and In His Steps Foundation. Tom was a dedicated and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was always willing to give of himself for the betterment of his family and others. He was a mentor and role model to his children and grandchildren. He loved the Lord and led by example. The world has lost an amazing man, but heaven has been blessed by his addition. Tom was preceded in passing by his parents, Victor and Katherine Yancy.
