As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses Roberta is very much loved by her brothers and sisters. I have fond memories of spending time with her in the field ministry talking to others about the Bible and spending time with her. Roberta always had a smile and good advice to give. I look forward to seeing her resurrected in paradise young and we can dance together.

Always remember Roberta and Chuck. Gave me one of my first jobs out of high school. I help at work sites during the summer. I especially remember Roberta since she handled payroll. Plus all the great times visiting them at Miniature Meadows. She will be missed by all.

I remember Roberta/“Berta” and Chuck as Mr. and Mrs. Miller, and in many ways, my second mother. When I was 12 and things were tough two doors over with my 3 sisters on my nerves, I knew I had a great place to come to escape. Imagine walking into a home and every single time, you were greeted with a big smile, a giant hug that literally took your breath away, and the insistence on having something to eat and drink. Some know of Paradise Lost but this my friends, was Paradise Found for me. Fresh walleye was a summer staple and vegetables that came straight from the garden were some of the simplest and yet tastiest foods ever; not to mention cobblers, pies, and cakes galore. She could make just about anything in the kitchen and it was fun just to sit, eat, and watch. Whenever I see a corn knickknack, my first thought is always her kitchen and makes me think of many fond meals in that space.
My first job as a putt-putt golf and custard server was the best job ever. Who cared about the money when I could eat my pay in soft serve custard and attempt to create new marketable sundaes. Thank God for a metabolism of a hummingbird at that time because the frozen treats were divine, plentiful, and became the benchmark in which I judge all things frozen today. The Dusty Miller is still a top favorite of mine. When Mrs. Miller was around, we always made sure our daily duties were done like cleaning the hot fudge machine, cutting the bags on certain days, and cleaning the dreaded bathrooms. She prided herself on a neat, clean, and organized business that ran like a well-oiled machine; all with a warm smile.
Not just a great cook or fine hostess, but just a delightful person who is a wonderful example of what a friend, wife and mother should be. Always ready with fresh garden picks to hand off to me to take home and share with my family. Always ready to go shopping and buy clothes and shoes for Kara (I had three outfits and was beyond envious of the closet full of fashionable attire-complete with matching shoes). Always ready to play an album and dance in the living room as if she were at a ball, even if she didn’t have a dance partner. Always a great and thoughtful caregiver to her mom and Mr. Miller in his late years.
From this, I hope to live a life close to that of Mrs. Miller. One full of joy, love, giving, and caring. I will miss you greatly, but your legacy lives on as well as all of my memories of your kindness and compassion.
