Obituary of Roberta L. Miller
Roberta L. Miller (nee Jacops), 88, daughter of Edward Valiant Jacops and Florence Marie (nee Porter) Jacops Seaver; Roberta’s mother often shared how as a baby Roberta came out dancing on tabletops and she left us the same way enjoying a rollicking polka. This might be expected coming from generations of stage and song entertainers on her father’s side.
Roberta loved growing up in Cuyahoga Falls, OH, with her two brothers, Robert and Ronald (Butchie), where she lived in seven different houses, and she could still recite all the addresses. Always athletic, Roberta loved to recall following her brothers jumping out of the second story window! She was a member of the National Honor Society and a top student in her 1950 Cuyahoga Falls graduating class.
She fondly recalled her days in the accounting department at the Lawson Milk Co. and in the executive offices at the Rubber Latex Co. before she married her husband Charles D. Miller in June 1955. She loved to tell friends how Charles saw her walking out of a drug store, followed her home and then proposed with a diamond ring all within two weeks.
Roberta and Charles went on to build a happy family of four children and several businesses in Kent and Stow. Roberta, known as the apple lady around Stow, applied her accounting, business, and legal skills to help Charles, a designer and builder, establish Jacops & Miller Construction Co., Inc.; Miniature Meadows Golf and Custard; River Hill Farm and Cider, and manage rental properties among other ventures.
Roberta had many superpowers, often welcoming family and friends with her open hospitality and parties. Her greatest delights were taking her five grandchildren on golf cart joyrides to find lost golf balls, dancing in the living room, jumping on the trampoline and hosting bonfire picnics. She stayed active listening to music, dancing, skating, gardening, traveling, and reading business articles, the Law, and her Bible.
Roberta was known for her generosity of spirit, giving to those in need either spiritually, physically, or materially. She gladly assisted many people, both family and friends, in their advancing years or when in need.
Always on the go, nothing slowed Roberta down until losing her beloved husband Charles in September 2019, and her brother, Robert in April 2019. Roberta places her faith in Revelation 21:4.
She leaves four children, five grandchildren, along with many dear family and friends who will miss and always remember her fondly. Children: Kristy L. Miller, Alexandria, VA; Kirk (Catherine) Miller, Rootstown, OH; Kelley (Jim) Crookston, Hudson, OH; Kara (Stuart) Banner, Stow, OH. Grandchildren: Kendall and Kori Crookston and Aidan, Kyle, and Leah Banner. The family would like to thank all her dear friends and caregivers who visited and supported her in these difficult times.
Friends are invited to Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, Stow, for visitation Thursday 4 to 7 PM. Private graveside services, presided by dear friend, Michael DiMaio, will be held at Standing Rock Cemetery.
