Obituary of Boyd T. Marsh

Boyd T. Marsh, 82, of Hudson, Ohio, passed away September 1, 2021. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran (1963-65). Born in Toledo OH to parents, George and Leah (Notestine) Marsh, he married Paula Reed in 1962 in Congress, OH. Boyd was a member of the First Congregational Church of Hudson; graduated from Perrysburg (OH) High School and Bowling Green State University (member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity). Boyd retired as Heath Commissioner of Summit County General Health District in 2000. He was also Director of Environmental Health for both Summit County General Health District and City of Cleveland Ohio Department of Public Health. Boyd was active in professional Public Health organizations as President of the Ohio Environmental Health Association (1972) and President of the National Environmental Health Association (1982) where he received the Walter F. Snyder Award for outstanding accomplishment in the environmental health field. He was the first Chairman of the Ohio Board of Sanitarian Registration and taught Environmental Health classes as an Adjunct Faculty for Cleveland State University, Bowling Green State University, and the University of Akron. Boyd shared his professional knowledge and personal experience with many Summit County organizations that help individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities: he was a former board member of the County of Summit DD Board, the ARC of Summit/Portage Counties, Summit Housing Development Corporation, The Ardmore Foundation, and Blick Center. Boyd and his wife, Paula, together created the Personal Advocacy Program for Summit and Portage County citizens with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and, in 1992, were instrumental in legally challenging unfair local ordinances that created obstacles for developmentally disabled individuals to live in residential neighborhoods. Preceded in death by parents and sisters, Sharon and Diana, he is survived by his wife of 59 years, Paula, of Hudson; daughters, Melissa Marsh, Tallmadge, OH and Amanda Marsh (Eric Simon), New Hampshire; son, Brent (Meri) Marsh, Findlay, OH; grandsons, Reed Marsh Simon and Forest Marsh Simon, New Hampshire; granddaughter, Grace Elizabeth Marsh, Findlay, OH; nephews, Scott (Lisa) Len, Peter (Ruby) Len, and David Soltysik; niece, Susan (Mark) Stephan. While there will be no services, feel free to toast a life well lived: Boyd gave much to his family and his community.
